Microclimates up the mountain
Monthly temperature (band from mean night minimum to day maximum) and rainfall (bars), ERA5 reanalysis 2021–2025 downscaled to each site's elevation. ERA5's 25 km grid blurs valleys, so treat these as zone averages.
Seasons: growth, flowering, fruiting and harvest
Typical months in Uttarakhand. Timing moves about a month earlier at the bottom of a species' range and later at the top. Harvest means the economic part (roots and rhizomes are dug after the tops die back, mostly October–November).

Uses and evidence of utility
Traditional and other uses, with how much human research exists. Counts come from PubMed (NCBI) for the plant's botanical names: all papers, clinical trials, randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews/meta-analyses. Grade is a curated research-strength rating: A several reviews and many RCTs with consistent findings; B some RCTs or a meta-analysis, modest or mixed; C one or two small or combination trials; D no human trials. It measures how well a use has been tested, not whether a plant is safe for you.

Sources and method
Species, zones, cultivation and economics: the 26 species prioritised by the Government of Uttarakhand and the ecological-zone recommendations in TERI's 2013 report for the State Medicinal Plants Board (with yield and cost data from HRDI Gopeshwar and the Centre for Aromatic Plants, Selaqui); NMHS cultivation SOPs (2022); HAPPRC agrotechniques; CSIR-CIMAP and the CSIR Aroma Mission. Economic figures are dated where given and are indicative only.
Conservation: IUCN Red List (2015 Indian assessments) and CITES Appendices; state rules require HRDI registration and a transit pass to sell cultivated medicinal plants.
Evidence: PubMed counts via NCBI E-utilities, queried on ; the top reviews and RCTs are linked. Automatic counts were read and corrected by hand where they mislead (animal studies indexed as trials, combination products, related species).
Climate: Open-Meteo historical archive, ERA5 2021–2025, downscaled to site elevation.
